Online Therapy in Las Vegas

Fremont East District in Downtown Las Vegas. Online Therapy in Las Vegas

When people find out that I’m an online therapist in Las Vegas, people ask me how they should go about finding a therapist for themselves. In this blog, I’ll give tips about finding the best therapist for you.

Where are you located?

I always start off asking people where they are located. The reason why this is important is because where you are at the time of service matters. Each state is different but many states have a law requiring a therapist to be licensed in the state where the client is receiving services. An example is if a client is located in Michigan for work but a therapist is not licensed in that state, it’s against the law for that therapist to provide therapeutic services to that client. A heads up to people who are interested in working with me, I’m licensed in Nevada, California, and Michigan. I only work with people who are located in those states.  Where you are located matters.

What’s the issue?

The issue you want to address is important. Do you want to talk about work, family, ethnic issues, depression, work-life balance or general stress? Yes, you could get a therapist who is a catch-all therapist, which is someone who treats everything but doesn't specialize in a specific area. I recommend finding a specialist.  Find someone who works and has training in the issues you want to work on. Don't go to a handyman. Also, you don’t go to a plumber for an electrical problem. Find a specialist for your issue. I specialize in helping high-achievers. Issues I address include work burnout, grief counseling, depression, anxiety, imposter syndrome, parenting, and relationships.

What is the cost?

What does a session cost? What are you expecting to pay for your treatment? This is a huge area to think about. There is a wide range too. Some therapists accept insurance while others don’t. As a therapist who is exclusively cash pay, one reason why I do not accept insurance is because insurance handcuffs therapists into providing therapy in a specific manner. I find those limitations not in the best interests of my clients. In terms of why rates differ so much, each therapist has different levels of experience, training, and treatment styles.  Finally, how much are you willing to invest in your mental health?

What’s the fit?

I saved this one for last. This is an important factors in terms of positive outcomes for treatment. Fit, also known as the therapeutic relationship, is essential for successful therapy outcomes. I always tell people they don’t have to like what the therapist is saying but you have to be comfortable enough to be open to it. Without a good fit, you are wasting your money, time, and energy with the therapist.

One way I ensure a great fit is I offer a free 15-min consult. I want to ensure this is the right fit for the both of us. If it’s not the right fit, I’m happy to refer you to someone who would better serve you.
