Online Therapy Las Vegas: Prioritize Your Health
It’s the start of the new year. Everyone is thinking about New Year's goals and the lifestyle changes they want to make. People typically think about making changes to their health. Physical health to be exact. Why don’t people think about their mental health? Health is physical health plus mental health. Without mental health, you only have one piece of the puzzle. In this blog, I’ll be talking about prioritizing your health.

An issue many of my clients have is they are overscheduled and say they don’t have the time to prioritize their health. Two points come up when I hear this. The first point is their health is not a priority. The second point is they are overscheduled. In both cases, this means you need to go back to the fundamentals. What is important in your life? Is your health a priority? Plan and simple. Yes or no. The snapback I get in response is “But I have to do XYZ first……” What this means is you have more important priorities than your health. This isn’t me giving you judgment. This is me helping you flush out what your true priorities are and helping you readjust those priorities if you want to make a change. I have zero issues with what your specific priorities are as long as you are in alignment with your goals and values. People work with me because their values and goals are not aligned with their actions.
This brings me to the idea of getting off autopilot and using active-decision making. It’s easy to go on autopilot throughout your day. You are already in a routine and making changes in the routine can be tough. If you are satisfied with how life is going, stay on autopilot. More power to you. If you aren’t happy with how life is going, get off autopilot and take responsibility for your actions. You are a grown adult. You get to make all the decisions in your life. You get to use active-decision making. For anyone who knows me, I love to talk about active-decision making. Active-decision making means being present in the moment and actively choosing what you want to do and how you want to do it. Active-decision making also involves taking ownership of both the benefits and the consequences of your decisions. When you start to use active decision making, you’ll start to recognize that you play a role in what is happening in your life. You have options and choices you can make. One of the major issues that clients report when they use active-decision making is making tough decisions.

Tough decisions are a part of life. As I said earlier, you’re a grown adult and you get to make all the decisions. Where the struggle lies for many is making the best decision for you in the long term. What happens in many situations is people choose to not address the main issue. They believe they are making the ‘easy’ or less painful choice. They believe that by making the ‘easy’ choice now, they’ll be in a better spot in the future to make the ‘harder’ choice. People push the problem to the side and say they will address it in the future. Here’s breaking news for you. That’s not how it works. People usually continue to make the ‘easy’ choice and never really address the issue. That issue becomes very burdensome over time. This is when it gets overwhelming and people don’t know what to do. Side note, this sounds exactly like The Box. Read that blog.
