Online Therapy Las Vegas: Lunch Break

Many high achievers either skip their lunch or eat their lunch at their desk. I know I’m guilty of this. It’s not the best habit but I have a full inbox and a never ending list of tasks that needed to be done yesterday. With that said, it’s really important to take a proper lunch break for your well-being.

Get The Most Out of Lunch

Put Down the Electronics

One suggestion is putting away the electronics during lunch. Put your phone on “do not disturb” and put your computer in sleep mode. Lunchtime is a chance to disconnect from work and reconnect with our minds and bodies. When we choose to spend our time scrolling through social media, we aren’t taking a break. It may feel like a break from the stressors of work, but it doesn’t recharge us. While watching reality TV may feel relaxing, it doesn’t actually refill our cup. It just stops the input. Stopping the input doesn’t mean we’re filling ourselves up. If we ourselves are an empty vessel, how are we supposed to pour into others?

Be Present

Another suggestion is to be present during lunch. Pay attention to yourself, the food that you’re eating, and the people you are spending time with. Being present with yourself means being aware of how you feel physically and emotionally. Take a second to check in with how your body may be feeling and try some mindfulness exercises. When you are checking in on your emotions, take a minute to process them. Being present with your food helps ground you. Notice how the food smells and tastes. It helps you be more mindful and aware of this moment. If you’re eating with others, being present with them can help build connections and relationships. Taking a break from work and focusing on being present in the moment can help you recharge.

When you take your lunch break, it not only improves your mental health but also your productivity. Taking a break can improve your focus, concentration, and decision-making abilities. Even though it may seem like a waste of time to take a break for 30 minutes or an hour, resting, relaxing, and refilling your cup actually helps you perform better. Make your lunch break a priority.
