Combat Burnout and Stress Podcast
I was a guest on the “Being Human is Weird” podcast. Host Abby Knoblock, who is a national board-certified health and wellness coach, and I shoot the breeze about stress, chronic stress, and burnout. I give definitions, tips, and tricks on identifying and dealing with these issues. The podcast is full of information that can help all walks of life improve the quality of their lives. Abby says it’s like getting free therapy. If I say so myself, the episode just hits.
One way to get started with dealing with stress is to be able to recognize and acknowledge your emotions. A way to name and recognize your emotions is to check out an emotions wheel. An emotions wheel has a name for many emotions that you feel. At the core of the emotions wheel, are the basic emotions. Start with the basic emotions and learn how to label your feelings. How do you label your feelings you ask? Imagine that you are feeling an emotion, say happy. When you feel happy, how do you know you are happy? Are you feeling relaxed? Do you have a smile on your face? Are you full of energy? Are you at peace? Does your body feel hot or cold? Try explaining it yourself like you are a 5-year-old. I’ll do another example but this time, I’ll use the feeling of anger. I know when I am angry when my head starts to feel hot, my hands get cold, my eyebrows furrow, and my breathing starts to become shallow and fast. When I start to notice these things happening, I can recognize that I am feeling angry.
